Esta es una de las sorpresas del año. La verdad es que no he escuchado el primer album de Jack Peñate, pero habñia leído sobre él. Tras leer una crítica en JNSP (así de influenciable soy) decidí hacerme con este disco, que a la primera no me entró, a la segunda tampoco, pero a la tercera empecé a rendirme a los ritmos tropicales y al regusto a mainstream de hace 25 años (ojo al vídeo de Be the one) Aunque en esa crítica hablaban de El Guincho y Vampire Weekend, creo que está más cerca de la world music para todos los públicos, pues el acercamiento es superficial, pero muy divertido y bailongo. Percusiones tribales, protagonistas en casi todas las canciones, la voz popera de Jack Peñate, coros, unas gotitas de funk, riffs de guitarra africanistas y buen rollo general hacen de Everything Is New uno de los discos de este año. Por lo general, gana enteros en los temas más movidos, sobre todo Tonight's today y So near, dos trallazos que dan ganas de bailar en la playa, pero también hay cabida a ritmos más pausados en la magnífica Pull my heart away. Además, destacaré Everything is new, Let's all die y Give yourself away... vamos, que 6 temazos notables de un total de 9 canciones no está nada mal, ¿no?
